Brief biographical sketch: Vadim Olshevsky received his M.S. degree from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Kishinev, Moldova (f. USSR), in 1983. He received his Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the Institute of Mathematics (Kishinev, Moldova, f.USSR) of the Academy of Sciences in 1989. Vadim Olshevsky was a Post-doctoral Scholar with the School of Mathematical Sciences at Tel Aviv University from 1991 to 1993. He was a Post-doctoral Fellow and then a Research Associate with the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from 1994 to 1996. Vadim Olshevsky is currently a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.
Vadim Olshevsky serves as an Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal “Linear Algebra and Its Applications,” an Associate Editor of the Birkhauser journal “Integral Equations and Operator Theory.” He is a member of the editorial board of the Taylor & Francis journal “Linear And Multilinear Algebra,” as well as of ”SIAM Review” and of “Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis.” He is a member of the editorial board of the Birkhauser book series “Operator Theory: Advances and Applications.” He edited several volumes in the series “Contemporary Mathematics” published by AMS and SIAM, as well as special journal issues devoted to matrices with structure and to fast matrix computations. Vadim Olshevsky serves on the board of the International Seminar on Matrix Methods and Operator Equations of the Institute of Numerical Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Moscow State University.
Vadim Olshevsky has served as a chair of the organizing committee of the 2005 IWOTA – “International Workshop on Operator Theory and Applications.” He was a chair of the organizing committee of the 18th conference of the International Linear Algebra Society in 2013. Vadim Olshevsky chaired the organizing committees of two AMS/SIAM research conferences on “Fast Algorithms” in 2001, and on “Structured Matrices in Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering” in 1999. He was a co-chair of several conferences on ”Advanced Signal Processing Algorithms, Architectures, and Implementations” that were held in the frameworks of SPIE annual meetings.
Vadim Olshevsky served on the organizing committees of the 2003 International Workshop on “Nonlinear Approximation in Numerical Analysis,” and of the 2005 International Conference on “Matrix Methods and Operator Equations.” He organized a number of minisymposia and special sessions for the SIAM Annual Meetings, AMS meetings, MTNS, IWOTA, and ILAS.

Vadim Olshevsky has held several industrial consulting positions, and he has a USA patent (awarded through Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies) for “Efficient List Decoding of Reed-Solomon Codes for Message Recovery in the Presence of High Noise Levels.”
